Achieve has created downloadable lists for each state's 2016-2017 assessments in ELA/literacy, mathematics, and science in grades 3-8 and high school. Additionally, Achieve has made available the sources for the lists in a downloadable Excel sheet with links to state webpages or documents.
Smarter Balanced has developed a new, interactive website that allows test takers to experience test questions and items in a similar manner to how they take the actual Smarter Balanced assessments. Sample items are organized by grade level and claims for ELA and math.
This U.S. Department of Education press release provides an update on the template for Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) consolidated state plans. The press release includes links to a letter to chief state school officers, a fact sheet, frequently asked questions, the consolidated state plan template, and a crosswalk that highlights changes in the new template.
The National Academies Press recently released Supporting Students' College Success: The Role of Assessing Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Competencies. Chaired by Dr. Joan Herman, the Committee on Assessing Intrapersonal and Interpersonal Competencies reviewed the research literature to determine whether there were relationships between these sets of competencies, as well as between the competencies and students' success in undergraduate school. The report is free to download from the National Academies Press website (linked above).
This Education Week blog post provides an update on the current status of ESSA regulations and the timeline for state plans. The blog includes the full text of a letter from the Secretary of Education to Chief State School Officers. The Secretary's letter encourages states to continue developing ESSA plans. The Department will let states know when there is a new plan template, and will accept consolidated state plans on April 3 or September 18, 2017.
